Attention Dog-Lovers: National Dog Day is Almost Here!
Attention Dog-Lovers: It’s National Dog Day!
Life might be a little ruff as summer comes to a close, but spending a little extra time with a furry pal on National Dog Day will certainly cheer you up!
National Dog Day was first celebrated on August 26th, 2004. Animal rescue advocate and animal behaviorist Colleen Paige founded the holiday, with the mission of rescuing unwanted pets through adoption.
Since then, pet-lovers and animal enthusiasts have celebrated the holiday annually on this day by showing their pups some extra love, going out to local animal rescues and bringing a pet worthy of love to their furever home. Paige and the creators of National Dog Day use this day as an opportunity to encourage Americans to choose pet adoption over buying a dog from a pet store.
If you’re thinking about adopting a canine on National Dog Day, your dog will be welcomed into the community at 1305 Dock Street with open arms (and paws), as we are a pet-friendly property!
Best Baltimore Spots to Pamper Your Pet
Baltimore is the perfect place to raise a dog, as there are several lovely dog parks for you and your pup to play! The Dog Park at Patterson Park is an off-leash fenced-in area for your dog to enjoy. After your dog is finished playing, you can also take a moment to appreciate the beautiful pagoda-style observatory overlooking Patterson Park. Additionally, check out the Canton Dog Park, which has a fenced-in and off-leash area for dogs to play and socialize and two separate sections for small and large dogs.
Plus, look out for Bark Social, which is coming to Baltimore in Late 2021. At Bark Social, your dogs aren’t the only ones with room to play and drink. Bark Social features a food and drink menu for dogs and humans, a climate-controlled clubhouse, and 20+ craft beers on tap.
After all that play, your pet might need a little bit of a clean-up. For all your dog’s grooming needs, visit Hair Off The Dog Grooming Salon & Spa in Canton for full-service grooming, bathing, nail clipping, and more. Treat your dog to a full-on spa day, photoshoot, and shopping spree at Happy Dog in Fell’s Point.
If you ever need a break from your beloved dog or are going out of town, Baltimore is also home to several fantastic dog boarding businesses. Happy Dog offers in-home pet sitting so your pet can stay comfortable. If you’d rather your pet getaway during your getaway, send them to Woofs & Wags Pet Lodge in Brewer’s Hill, a 5,000 square-foot lodging facility with experienced pet care providers.
